Frank J. Giunta

Frank J. Giunta, 74, of Oakland, California, formerly of Braeburn, Pennsylvania, son of the late Frank A. and Mary (Bartolovich) Giunta, passed away on July 23 at Alta Bates Medical Center in Berkeley, California. 

Frank graduated from Arnold High School in 1959, received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1963, and his M.A. from San Francisco State University in 1969.  His lifelong intellectual curiosity led him to pursue a Ph.D. from the California Institute for Integral Studies in his 60s and 70s, where his dissertation remains a work in progress.  He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves during the Viet Nam War. 

He worked for the University of California at Berkeley in various administrative roles until his retirement in 1997, and remained a loyal California Golden Bears football fan. 

Frank was an active volunteer and a Board Member with the North Oakland Village which supports seniors living independently in their own home, and he was the past President and a member of the Board of Directors of The Artship Foundation in Oakland. 

Frank loved all sports, especially the San Francisco 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, the Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy where he visited relatives.  He always stayed in close touch with all his family, he loved family gatherings, and his home was always open to friends and relatives from around the world.

Frank is survived by many loving friends, including his dear friends John Wesley Hayes and Richard Stanley, by many cousins, including Lincoln Ellis, Marlene Watkins, and Dana Whitesell, and by his aunts and Godsons.

Friends will be received Saturday, August 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. when prayers of transfer will take place, in the Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, 1509 5^th Avenue, Arnold, Pennsylvania, JohnPaul Bertucci, owner-supervisor. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at Mount St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.  A private burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park.
