Bernadette Marcia. Antkoviak, 74, of Harrisburg, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg. Born Oct. 17, 1947, in New Kensington, to the late Bruno and Helen (Helinski) Antkoviak. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Antkoviak and Melvin Lloyd Bentley; two nephews, M.L. Christopher "Chris" Bentley, in 2019 and Brian K. Bentley, in 1970. She graduated from Kiski School District in 1965 and graduated from Clarion University in 1969 with a Bachelor's in Education. She received a Master's in Education in 1971. She was hired after her student teaching in 1971 and taught until her retirement in 2016. She received the Nisald Award for teaching excellence. She taught a wide variety of students and when she saw potential in students, she pushed them to excel. Many of her students after graduation sought her out to thank her. Besides her love for teaching, she enjoyed sewing, reading, QVC Shopping jewelry and raising German shepherds. She was known for her generous spirit but she could be a spitfire personality. Survivors include her niece, Sandra (Joseph) Stavely, of Ohio; nephew, Tim Bentley, of Lower Burrell; her beloved German Shepherds; and many cousins and friends and colleagues.
