It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a most wonderful woman.
Ednamae Sukala, 92, (affectionately known as LaLa) of New Kensington, passed away Friday, August 22, 2025, just hours short of her 93rd birthday with her son Gary and her daughter Sherry holding her hands. She was born August 23, 1932, in New Kensington to the late Stanley and Sophie (Dziengielewski) Probel.
LaLa loved to share her joy for living with family and friends, especially with a beautiful sunset, a glass or 2 of wine on the patio or down at the river, a little dancing, music, and a lot of laughing.
LaLa married her high school sweetheart and lifelong dance partner Bill Sukala. She was a most dedicated wife and mother.
She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Her stunning blue eyes and beautiful smile will always be remembered.
Right out of high school, she began working at Bell Telephone Co. in New Kensington and Tarentum. After which, she worked at Hart’s Department Store in the Cosmetics Department and ended up retiring from Allegheny Ludlum where she spent 14 years as a Telephone Operator.
LaLa was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William L “Bill” Sukala in 2015, her eldest son, William J. “Billy” Sukala in 2011, her sister Dorothy “Babe” Chamrad in 2007 and her husband Albert in 2024, her brother Larry Probel in 2008 and his wife Shirley in 2023, and her twin brother Edwin “Pro” Probel in 2018 and his wife Jackie in 1999.
She is survived by her son Gary Sukala and his wife Barbara, her daughter Sherry Sukala, granddaughter and family, Hillary and Philip Ameris, great grandchildren, Nico, Avery, and Emelia Ameris. She is also survived by 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
She had a vivacious personality and always spoke her mind. LaLa was known as the “queen of adjectives” when describing someone or something. You could always count on her to tell it like it is, never holding back with her opinion, which always brought much laughter to everyone who knew her.
Please join us to celebrate her 92+ years of life on Wednesday, August 27 from 3 – 7:00 p.m. at Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, 1509 Fifth Avenue, JohnPaul Bertucci, owner/supervisor. Prayers of Transfer will take place Thursday, August 28 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Lower Burrell.
