Edward "Frenchy" DesLauriers Obituary

Spending his first Christmas in Heaven this year, walking with Jesus,on streets of gold with 2 good legs, Edward J.DesLauriers,“Frenchy” age 70 passed away peacefully, & pain free at the Pittsburgh VA hospital with the love of his life, Becky, at his side.

Frenchy was born Nov.6 1950, raised in New Kensington, PA but resided in Shadyside, Ohio for the past12+ years. He was the 3rd. son of Henri and Ethel (Pollick) DesLauriers,

Ed attended Valley High School, earned a degree in electrical engineering from PENN STATE New

Kensington, PA. Ed also owned a landscaping business & was known for his multiple Christmas tree lots.

Frenchy was in a tragic 3 wheeler accident in 1986 that rendered him paralyzed.

He was a PROUD Army Veteran of Viet Nam, having joined the military at age 16 achieving the rank

of Sargent in the 528 Combat Engineers. He told many people “I’d do it again in a heartbeat, if for only you” !”

From an early age, Fenchy was “married to wrestling.” He started the CAWA (Christian Athletic Wrestling

Association)  He also started a youth wrestling program at Burrell Lake Park. The program was a huge success

and the beginning of Burrell Schools wrestling. Years later he founded the “Super Trophy Tournament” - also

a huge success. In February 2020, the tournament held it’s 28th event at which time Coach Frenchy was

honored for his accomplishments & dedication all those years.

Frenchy was extremely proud of the legacy achieved by his youngest son, Joel ( the first ever from

Burrell) and his grandson, Dakota, both earning the title of Pennsylvania State Champion.Rightly so, Coach

Frenchy considered himself the Godfather of Burrell wrestling.

Ed belonged to PVA (Paralyzed Veterans of America) He worked with them in several capacities for a

number of years. He also earned gold medals in several different sporting events as a participant in multiple

National Veterans Wheelchair games, held yearly in different states

Additionally, He was an avid fly fisherman – a member of Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. His favorite

“fishing hole” was at Spruce Creek / Homewaters PA. Over the years he has caught his share of the “big boys.”

at many different places on fishing trips with the PHWFF group, including a trip to Thunder Bay Canada.

The words no and can’t were not part of his vocabulary. He was a real trooper, his sense of humor

was contagious, a very compassionate, generous guy. One of a kind.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel & Henri. He is survived by his sons – Shawn, his wife

Shan & their children Cody (Kelly) & Brooke; - Ryan, his wife Merritt & their sons Finnigan & Lucius; and Joel, his
