Edwin Probel Obituary

Edwin R. "Pro" Probel, 86, of Annapolis, formerly of Lower Burrell, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, in his residence. He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in New Kensington to the late Stanley and Sophie (Dziengelewski) Probel. He was also predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Vairo) Probel. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Probel; and a sister, Dorothy "Babe" Chamrad. Ed was an avid lifelong sports fan and athlete. A Ken High (Valley High School) basketball star, he received a scholarship to Lenoir-Rhyne University, starting in his freshman year. His love of family cut his career short there - returning home to help support his family following his father's death. Ed's ability to have a positive impact on his family and friends through sports, humor, care and generosity touched everyone he knew. He married the love of his life, Jackie, building a life together full of unforgettable memories with family and friends. He volunteered as coach and Scout leader, and in many church and community roles in New Ken/Lower Burrell - a favorite was as the Mt. St. Peter's bowling league president. He would often be seen walking his beagle, Chief, in his neighborhood, stopping for coffee and cookies at friends' homes along the way. He continued bowling in Annapolis, and his love of the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins was well known to all in the Annapolis community that he called home since 2010. He is survived by a son, Todd (Nina) Probel, of Ohio; a daughter, Dana (Chris) Kennedy, of Maryland; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Thomas and James Probel, Taylor (Anthony) Skaggs, Jordan (Ryan) Bradford, Corey Kennedy and Nicholas Kennedy; and a great-grandson, Jaxon Skaggs. He is also survived by his twin sister, Ednamae Sukala, of New Kensington; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in the GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME INC., 1509 5th Ave., Arnold, PA 15068, JohnPaul Bertucci, owner/supervisor. Prayer of transfer will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed at 10 a.m. by a funeral Mass at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell. Burial will take place in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ed's name can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake at www.hospicechesapeake.org.
