Elizabeth Marie (Fitzgerald) Stock

While we on earth mourn the passing of our matriarch Elizabeth Stock, born July 12, 1921 (103 years old), there is great joy above as she is welcomed by the family and friends who have gone before her.

A lifelong resident of East Liberty, Elizabeth Fitzgerald married Paul Stock Jr. on October 22, 1942, in Chicago while Paul was in the Navy. The first of their children was born in Pittsburgh in 1944 while Paul was serving with valor in the Pacific theater. Elizabeth was a devout Roman Catholic who practiced and lived her faith. She was very active in her church and was an avid card player. She had a passion for playing 500 bid and did so with conviction until playing partners were no longer available. Playing cards, as well as reading and puzzles, helped her to keep a sharp mind to her final hours.

There are many words you can use to describe the life of Elizabeth. Most notably she was a kind, compassionate, and honest woman who was also a strong advocate for our country.

Of German and Irish ancestry, she favored her Irish heritage and enjoyed singing and dancing. Still, her German traits could be revealed through a convicting reproach should you be unkind in her presence or run afoul of her directions.

By far the singular attribute of her life was she loved children. Elizabeth loved babies so much she had eleven of them over a span of 18 years. She delighted in holding a baby in her arms and talking to them in a soft voice. Every child she met received an abundance of the most important necessity in life – love. Her children were loved, her grandchildren were eager to visit her because they knew her home was filled with something everyone wanted and needed, and that was a grandmother’s love.

Elizabeth Stock Passed away on August 2, 2024. By earthly standards, Elizabeth was not a rich woman, but she would tell you she was the wealthiest person on earth.  Her final moments were spent with her children, whom she called her Crown Jewels, praying as she took her last breath.  She had a nonstop flight to heaven.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Catherine (Kumer) Fitzgerald, her husband Paul in 2004, daughter Eileen Utiss, 4 brothers, 5 sisters and a daughter in law Gilda Stock.

She is survived by her Children, Caroline (Frank) Bertucci, Paul (June) Stock III, Betsy (Phil) Stillitano, Patrick “PJ” Stock, Tom (Alice) Stock, Mary Kay Franciscus, Peggy (Bill) Sweeney, Chuck (Gay “Moochie”) Stock, Frederick (Janice) Stock, Sheila (Bob) Johnson, 33 Grandchildren, 52 Great-Grandchildren, 2 Great-Great Grandchildren, 2 sisters a son-in-law, Dave Utiss, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday August 7, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, Inc., 1509 Fifth Ave. Arnold, Pa 15068. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday August 8, 2024, 10:00 A.M. in Mount Saint Peter R.C. Church, 100 Freeport Rd New Kensington, Pa 15068. Everyone attending the Mass, please go directly to the church.  Burial will be Private.
