John "Hubby" Toney, 92, of New Kensington passed away on December 26, 2022, at Presbyterian Senior Care Woodside Place in Oakmont, PA. He was born on September 24, 1930 to the late George and Martha (Aboud Elias) Toney of New Kensington, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara May (Santucci) Toney who passed away May 9, 2022, three brothers, Albert, Michael, and Joseph Toney as well as two sisters, Mary Toaso and Catherine "Rachel" Adams.
He was a member of St. George Orthodox Church in New Kensington and served as an usher and money counter. He proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. John was the owner/operator of several business, Hubby's on 12th Street in New Kensington, Hubby's on 4th Avenue in Arnold, and Hubby's Custard in Gilpin Township. He also worked as a clerk for the PA State Liquor Stores. He sponsored and was actively involved in Hubby's Slow-Pitch Softball Team who won the 1965 Class B World’s Men’s Slow Pitch Softball.
Surviving John are his children, Phillip (Bunny) Toney of New Kensington, Renee (Mark) Nadzam of Lower Burrell, Leslie (Mike) Orr of Florida, and Kathleen (Buddy) Waltonbaugh of New Kensington. Also surviving John is a sister Sadie Toney, of New Kensington, a brother-in-law Guido Santucci of Lower Burrell, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at the Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, Inc., 1509 Fifth Avenue, Arnold, John Paul Bertucci, Owner/Supervisor.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. George Orthodox Church, 1150 Leishman Avenue, New Kensington. Everyone please meet directly at the church.
Burial will be private.
