Louis J. Mangione, 75, died peacefully at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh on Sunday, November 12th, after a brief illness.
Lou was born and raised in New Kensington where he graduated from New Kensington High School in 1966. He earned a BS degree in Secondary Education from Edinboro State College in 1971 and was a math teacher in Williamsburg, Virginia in the 1980’s. He retired ten years ago from his work in government sales.
The son of the late Joseph and Sara Mangione, Lou leaves two sisters, Tina Eubanks of North Las Vegas, and Diana Emmerling of Lower Burrell. “Uncle Lou” leaves nieces and nephews Jason Eubanks of Las Vegas, Jamie Weiland of North Las Vegas, Matthew (Amy) Emmerling of West Chester, PA, Frank (Amanda) Emmerling of Gibsonia, PA and Katie (Patrick) Gentile of Gibsonia, PA. Great-Uncle Lou also had a great-nephew and five great-nieces, who he loved dearly.
Friends who knew him well called him “Louie”. From an early age, he was active in sports and loved playing baseball from the age of five as a batboy for a little league team in Belle Vernon, PA. He pitched for his high school team in the sixties. Lou was also an avid golfer and spent time with his Ken Hi Class of ’66 Reunion group.
Lou will be remembered for his generosity of time, talents and treasure, his love of family and his kind and gentle nature.
Friends will be received from 4-7 pm on Friday, November 17th at the Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, Inc. 1509 5th Ave. Arnold, JohnPaul Bertucci, Owner/Supervisor. Prayers of transfer will take place 9:30 AM on Saturday, November 18th in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass 10 AM at Mt. St. Peter R.C. Church, New Kensington.
