Mario Joseph Montemurro

Mario Montemurro of Arnold passed away peacefully on August 4, 2025. Born April 17, 1934, in Cleto, Provence of Cosenza, Italy. He was the youngest of four boys born to Pasquale and Carmella (Guercio) Montemurro, stepmother Raffaela (Salomone) Montemurro. Mario worked at ALCOA Corporation, Braeburn Steel and after retiring early worked a "busy job" at the Italian Oven. Mario was of catholic faith and a member of Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church New Kensington.

He had many hobbies which included making limoncello, wine of all flavors, "rolling off" at the club, taking care of his grapevines, fig trees and growing a productive garden every year.  He enjoyed sharing his gardening knowledge with eager listeners as well as giving away a lot of his summer bounty. Mario was an Arnold #1 fireman and donated many years as Santa's elf at Christmas time. He would don his green elf suit and go out nightly with Santa passing out candy, making appearances at Christmas parties and the family of a fellow fireman when asked. 

Organizations belonged to the Mt St Peter R.C. Holy Name Society, IAES, Fraternal order of Eagles (Arnold), 7th Street Sportsman’s, Highhatters club, Arnold #1 Firemen's club.  

Mario was family oriented and visited with his extended family nearly every Sunday for most of his life. He is survived by his daughters Valerie Montemurro of Cheswick and Edith (Henry) McNutt of Arnold with whom he lived. Grandfather to Sean Montemurro, Emily, Julia and Brandon McNutt, all from Arnold. Brother Eugene Montemurro of Lower Burrell with whom he made his trek from Italy to Ellis Island, NY when they were 11 and 13. Also, several very dear nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Zanotti), a son, Anthony Montemurro, brothers Thomas and Aldo and sister-in-law MaryJane Montemurro.

Friends will be received from 4-8 on Thursday August 7, 2025, at GIUNTA-BERTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1509 Fifth Avenue, Arnold.

A Funeral Mass will take place Friday 10am at Mt. St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Everyone attending please go directly to the church.  Burial will be private. To leave an online condolence, visit www.giunta-bertucci.com
