Simone J. Merian

Simone J. Merian of Lower Burrell passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023 at age 95, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Tinchebray (Normandy), France to the late Francois and Louise (Blanchard) Berthier. Besides her parents, Simone was preceded in death by her husband, Jacques S. Merian, who passed in 2016, and a brother, Francis. Simone was employed as a secretary/translator in the engineering industry for many years, as well as in the jewelry industry. She enjoyed painting, reading, shopping, speaking French, and she was a master of French and Armenian cooking. Simone loved spending time with her family. Simone is survived by two daughters, Sylvie L. Merian (Levon Tatevossian) of New York City and Nadine (Russ) Ciappetta of New Kensington, three grandchildren, Lauren Merian-Klein (Matt) and twins Marco and Marisa Ciappetta, and four great-grandchildren, Kovia, Theo, Rowan, and Iris. She is also survived by her loving sister-in-law, Nenette Merametdjian, and several loving nieces and nephews. Services and burial are private and arrangements are being handled by Giunta-Bertucci Funeral Home, Inc., 1509 Fifth Avenue, Arnold, JohnPaul Bertucci owner/supervisor. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Simone's favorite charities: Armenia Tree Project (www.armeniatree.org) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
